A woman believed her husband had returned from an ordinary business trip—until she noticed a single word burned across his back. What she discovered next would tear apart everything she thought she knew about their marriage.
My husband came home after what he claimed had been a five-day business trip.
Grant dropped his suitcase beside the front door, pulled me into his arms, and sighed against my hair.
“I missed you.”
“I missed you too,” I said.
He looked worn out. He hugged me, complained that the meetings had been miserable, and spent the evening talking about airports and delayed flights.
“The airline lost one of my bags for six hours,” he complained as I reheated the chicken I had made. “Then my return flight sat on the runway forever. I swear, Rachel, I could have driven home faster.”
“You went three states away.”
“Exactly. That’s how bad it was.”
Nothing seemed wrong.
Grant had traveled for work many times before.
He worked in regional sales for a furniture company and occasionally visited distributors in other states.
I had never questioned those trips because he always came home with expense receipts, branded folders, and boring stories about conference rooms.
That night, while getting ready for bed, he removed his T-shirt.
His entire back was deeply tanned.
Except for one word.
Across the middle, in pale skin, someone had clearly used sunscreen as a stencil.
CHEATER!
