“I turned another year older today… and spent it holding a stranger’s hand while they took their last breath.”

No cake. No candles. No happy birthday song. Just another long shift in the hospital, doing what I’ve been called to do—saving lives.

Most people would never know that today is my birthday. I didn’t tell anyone. Instead of wishing for gifts or time off, I found myself whispering prayers over my patients, asking God to bring them peace, healing, or comfort in their hardest moments.

I’ve held hands through final goodbyes, whispered hope when fear filled the room, and carried burdens that don’t wash off when I go home. My heart has ached in ways I can’t explain, but every single day I choose this.
