“What was supposed to happen?”
He remained silent for three seconds.
Too long.
I opened another file.
A draft authorization form.
My forged signature was at the bottom.
Patricia gasped.
Daniel went pale.
Vivian whispered,
“Close that laptop.”
I laughed softly.
“No.”
She stepped toward me.
“Emma, you’re confused.”
“I’m very clear.”
“You’re destroying your marriage over money.”
“No.”
I shut the laptop.
“I’m ending a financial hostage situation because you put your hands on me.”
Daniel reached toward my wrist.
I stepped back.
“Don’t touch me.”
He froze.
For the first time all night, everyone listened.
Then I picked up my phone.
Vivian sneered.
“Who are you calling?”
I held her gaze.
“The people you should have worried about before you decided I was weak.”
