The end of a marriage and a new beginning
I went to the kitchen and threw the entire pot of stew he had been preparing for half a day into the trash.
“My love for you is like this food,” I said calmly. “When something is contaminated, it goes in the trash.”
Marcelus fell to his knees before me. He cried, begged, promised to cut off contact with Kaani and quit his job.
But it was too late.
I packed my suitcase and left the apartment.
I stayed with my friend Lysandra, a divorce lawyer. Together we analyzed all the evidence.
I decided not to make a public spectacle.
Instead, we sent a professionally prepared report to the management of Marcelus regarding the relationship between the supervisor and the intern and financial abuse.
We joined:
- screenshots of conversations,
- bank statements,
- confirmation of transfers,
- evidence of private expenses financed with the company card.
On Monday morning, Marcelus was called to the HR department.
He was suspended from his duties that same day, and a few days later he was dismissed for disciplinary reasons.
Kaani also lost her internship.
Rumors spread quickly throughout the company.
Their affair cost them their reputations, their jobs, and their professional futures.
A few months later we met in court during the divorce hearing.
Marcelus looked utterly devastated. He had lost his job, his apartment, and most of his savings.
The house was sold, the loans were paid off, and our marriage was officially over.
I started a new life.
I bought a small apartment in a quiet neighborhood. I decorated it exactly how I wanted—nothing extravagant or needing to impress anyone.
Over time, I got a promotion and regained my composure.
One evening, I received a message from a stranger. She wrote that my story had given her the strength to leave her cheating and toxic partner.
Then, for the first time in many months, I felt that all this pain had some meaning.
Today I am alone, independent and calm.
And I know one thing – sometimes you have to go through the bitterness of betrayal to truly feel the taste of freedom.
